ORB Architects, now part of INNOVA Architects, provided design services for the renovation of Kimbro Pool at Buildings 2160/2161 which are located near the historic district of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Main Post. The pool area building was originally constructed in 1945. The historic exterior appearance and features of the building were not modified for the renovation. The scope of work included complete demo of the interior and reconstruction of the Lap Pool, new Zero-Depth Pool with associated interactive water features, replacement of deck drains and gutters, replacement of pool mechanical systems, upgrades to pool filters, ventilation and lighting systems, repair/replacement of acoustical panels and paint. Exposed interior asbestos- and lead- containing materials encountered in work areas were abated, and the roof and gutter system of the pool were replaced. In addition, upgrades to the pool office, and interior painting of interior surfaces. Fire alarm and MASS notification work was included throughout both buildings (2160/2161) as well as fire sprinkler systems for the Natatorium area and the adjacent Weights Room in 2160.
