Algona City Hall and Community Center
Algona, Washington

INNOVA Architects worked with the City of Algona to construct a new civic building that houses the City Hall and a Community Center. The existing City Hall was too small, resulting in the Mayor and his staff occupying a trailer in the parking lot and the police department not being able to properly process people or evidence. INNOVA's first task was to perform and assessment comparing the option of purchasing an existing building or construct a new one. Based on that evaluation, it was determined that a reasonably sized new building was not only a cost-effective option, but would avoid having to compromise on the program and design.

The City Hall occupies the second floor over the Community Center. The building was designed as a Risk Category IV building under the current code, which anticipates that it could serve the community in case of emergency and disaster needs.

The City Hall includes new Council Chambers, reception, the Public Works Department, meeting rooms, a small kitchen/staff break room, and a new area for the mayor and his staff. The Community Center includes a large Multi-Purpose Room with a stage at one end facing a wall that opens up directly to the adjacent park with a large overhead type door. Around the central Multi-Purpose space is a commercial kitchen, a computer room, game room, privacy room, and meeting room, as well as space for staff.

The project is LEED Silver Certified.
