Lynden Aquatics Facility Feasibility Study
Lynden, Washington
In early 2008, ORB Architects, now a part of INNOVA Architects, provided a feasibility study to Whatcom Family YMCA for use in planning a new facility in Lynden.
ORB Architects worked directly with representatives from the Whatcom Family YMCA to develop a concept plan and area of magnitude cost estimate for a new 57,825 SF facility. The site chosen is adjacent to an existing city park, which provides a good recreational relationship. Because the property is constrained, accommodating all of the desired programs and parking was a challenge. However, by locating some of the program on the second floor, an economical solution was reached. The plan also uses the adjacent property relationships to help organize the design. For example, much of the program can readily view or even access the park, extending the perceived function of the building.
